What is Early Intervention?

At Dana Street Dental, we believe orthodontics is about more than just straightening teeth—it’s about guiding growth, supporting healthy
development, and creating smiles that last. Early intervention orthodontics allows us to assess and guide your child’s development while they are still growing, helping to reduce the need for more complex treatment later on. Traditionally, orthodontic treatment was delayed until all adult teeth had come through, however we now know that many orthodontic concerns begin much earlier. By assessing children around the ages of 7–9, when the jaw and facial bones are still developing, we can guide growth, create space for adult teeth, and address underlying concerns before they become more complex.

If you’ve noticed any of the above—or simply want peace of mind—an early assessment

How Early Intervention Works

Every child grows differently, which is why treatment is always tailored to their needs.

Early intervention may include:

We work with your child’s natural growth to achieve the best long-term outcome—often simplifying future orthodontic treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will My Child Still Need Braces?

In some cases, early intervention can reduce—or even eliminate—the need for braces later on. For others, a second phase of treatment may still be recommended once all adult teeth have come through. However, this is often simpler, shorter, and more predictable.

When Should My Child Be Seen?

We recommend children have their first orthodontic assessment around 7 years of age. Even if no treatment is needed, this allows us to monitor growth and step in at the right time if required.

Start Early, Smile for Life

Early intervention is about more than straight teeth—it’s about creating the right foundation for healthy development, confident smiles, and long-term wellbeing.
