We Make Taking Care of Your Family’s Oral Health Simple
As a family dentist in Ballarat, we enjoy welcoming patients of all ages. Our dentists have experience in treating young patients and have an extra gentle approach. Our team has a common goal – to ensure dental visits are a positive experience for the whole family. Dana Street Dental is the children’s dentist Ballarat families have come to trust.
The earlier on in life your child begins developing good oral hygiene habits, the more likely they are to stick with them. We’re here to support you through your child’s dental milestones. Let us help you ensure they have the best possible start to a life of great oral health.
Our dentists recommend you bring your child in for their first visit from about two years of age. Regular dental visits are essential for growing children. They allow your children’s dentist to familiarise your child with the dental environment. It also means they can detect any potential issues early on and ensure good dental development.
What to Expect at Your Child's First Dental Visit
Your child’s first dental visit should be a casual and enjoyable experience. It should include gently introducing your child to the environment, dental chair and their dentist. Our main goal for this visit is to make both parent and child feel completely at ease.
Children’s first dental check-ups often include a quick ride in the dental chair and a subtle oral assessment. Your dentist will check their teeth, gums and soft tissues in their mouth, as well as their jaw development and bite.
Our dental team encourages you to ask any questions you have about children’s dental care and your child’s oral health. We are more than happy to take the time to answer your questions and provide you with any information you need.
Children's Orthodontist in Ballarat
We have helped ensure the optimal oral development of many children across Ballarat and surrounding areas. Functional orthodontics work best when your child is still growing. So, our dentists recommend their first orthodontic consultation to be around the age of 7.
For growing children, our initial focus is on dentofacial orthopaedics. Dentofacial orthopaedics refers to improving your child’s airway and promoting proper facial development. This may involve fitting an expansion plate to improve the size of their jaws. We avoid extracting adult teeth wherever possible. We prefer to help your child’s jaws develop to their genetic potential.
As the palate expands, so will their nasal and sinus passage – enabling your child to breathe easier through their nose. Once they have all their permanent teeth, their straightening treatment can begin.
Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)
This Government introduced scheme aims to improve the oral health of kids aged 2 to 17 years of age in Australia. The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) allows eligible children to access $1,000 in benefits on select dental care over two years.
You can check your child’s eligibility here. Our Ballarat dental team could also help you do this at your next visit. Please contact us for more information.
